This hole of Water looks unassuming, but it’s actually an elevator that goes all the way to the Bedrock.

Some Crafters have experimented with different shapes and styles to create fancier Elevators, some of which utilize Boats.

These tried-and-true, well-used structures are awesome for getting to and from deep mines or high castles, though you do need to make sure that the elevator is not too long, as you will have to breathe at some point. Most Crafters have at least one or two of these around their map, and you just have to try one out to see how useful they are.

Note: Some Crafters make small one or two block wide pools on the surface that look like plain water ponds, but when you dive in, they actually take you down to a secret base! Of course, if someone falls in or sees you dive in and not come back out, you might have an uninvited guest sooner rather than later.
